Donald Trump Tweets Happy New Year to All (Even His Enemies)

Trump happy new year

Republican president elect Donald J. Trump took to Twitter today, offering a New Year’s wish of happiness aimed particularly at those who campaigned so vigorously against him in the 2016 election.

The statement is clearly meant to poke fun at the doomsday rhetoric being proclaimed by millions of independently operating (and self-conscripted) liberal “town-criers,” who have taken it upon themselves as a personal mission to preach the coming disaster with Trump at the helm. To be fair, many Republicans operated similiarly in both 2008 and 2012 — labeling President Obama with a plethora of derogatory commentary just after his election and throughout the tenure of his presidency — and progressives are gleefully using this past defamation to rationalize their own rhetoric toward the new president-elect.

But does this justify their behavior toward Trump? Do two wrongs make a right? Haven’t supporters of the current president been suggesting it was unethical, ridiculous, and disrespectful to say such things about him, but are now doing the same thing to the president elect? Is this hypocrisy? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook or in the comments below.
