Dr. Ron Reflects: “Nothing But The Truth”

When you appear in court as a witness, you vow to tell the truth. When Jesus appeared before Pilate prior to his crucifixion, he said that he came into the world to bear witness to the truth. Pilate wanted to know what the truth was. If he had really listened to what Jesus had to say, he would have understood the truth.

Daily we are exposed either to the truth or to a lie – there is no in-between, despite the world talking about partial truths. Jesus tells us that lies come from the father of lies – the devil. We see truth being distorted all around us today, as we are given little bits of the truth mixed with a sizeable portion of lies and then swallow it without chewing or digesting it. Politicians (and others) are quick to put their spin on the truth, and if we are not careful, we might spin completely out of control. Misinformation and personal biases rule the day.

In order to find the truth, one has to search for it. It cannot be found in media sound-bites, or in opinion pieces. If we are to know the whole truth and nothing but the truth, we must go to the source. Jesus identifies truth in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, the life.” Jesus is the “Logos,” God’s personal revelation of the truth, and the Bible is the revelation of truth through the written word.

In years past, this country experienced a period of great economic difficulty known as the Great Depression. In light of what we see, hear, and read today, perhaps we are living in the time of the “Great Deception.” Failure to seek, know, convey, and stand on the truth will lead us further down the road of ignorance and servitude. Jesus said that “we shall know the truth, and the truth will set us free.”
