I know there are quite a few of us who feel a significant amount of frustration when we read the news, look at what the Republicans (who control both houses and the presidency) are doing, and see something which oddly resembles what the Democrats (who are now a socialist party) did before them. What happened to all the election rhetoric? Are politicians all shameless liars?
Thankfully, there are at least a few who consistently stand by their political talk by walking the political walk that goes with it; and that is exactly what we are seeing in the declarations of Senators Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, and Ron Johnson as they stand up and tell the GOP establishment that they will not support a healthcare replacement bill that is not a full repeal — like the president and many of them promised.
Senator Paul, in particular, has been very vocal about the GOP leadership’s effort to do almost nothing to actually repeal the demonstrably terrible Affordable Care Act (ACA); which has caused many people significant financial hardship, loss of benefits and catalyzed the bankruptcy of numerous health insurance providers. He released a press release today stating that he and his conservative colleagues would not support the bill in its current form.
“Currently, for a variety of reasons, we are not ready to vote for this bill, but we are open to negotiation and obtaining more information before it is brought to the floor. There are provisions in this draft that represent an improvement to our current health care system, but it does not appear this draft as written will accomplish the most important promise that we made to Americans: to repeal Obamacare and lower their health care costs.” – Rand Paul
Democratic advisor and architect of the Obamacare monstrosity, Jonathan Gruber, agreed that the new GOP bill could no longer be called a repeal of the ACA.
