Top 10 Things Americans Worship (And Shouldn’t)

selfish

1) The Self

If there is any false god larger and more prevalent than that of the American state in this nation, it has to be the American individual. Every single person on the face of the earth knows exactly how it feels to look out for number one and no one else. God knows exactly how much we love ourselves and that is exactly why Jesus references it specifically when he tells us what the greatest commandments of God are:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

The God and Father of all things calls us to a higher purpose. He knows we love ourselves, and that we often pervert that love to painful and tragic ends on our own. But still he desires for us to use it as a reference point for how we start to love others.  And that is the primary command Jesus has given to those who would follow Him. That not only would we do this in His name, but that others would know who our master is by how well we love. Is that where we are church? I pray that you are blessed to be able to do this tomorrow, and everyday forward, from now until he returns.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – Jesus
