8) Nintendo Fun Club News / Nintendo Power
Nintendo used the game to fuel interest in their Nintendo Fun Club. Players who purchased The Legend of Zelda and mailed in a warranty card became a member of the Fun Club: a bi-monthly newsletter that was printed by Nintendo and distributed to a list of players who had applied. The Fun Club provided crossword puzzles, jokes and tips and tricks on how to progress through difficult games like Zelda. The list of members grew and grew until eventually the newsletter became a magazine. This magazine, Nintendo Power, was printed for 24 years making it one of the longest running video game magazines in the US.
