Dr. Ron Reflects: Day By Day

Just take one day at a time; that’s an expression that is heard often as we try to encourage others to deal with the present problems they are facing. And, that’s good advice for all of us. We are not called upon to look down the road too far, but to take one step after another — after another. Life is not about making giant leaps forward, but rather our persistence in moving forward.

Sometimes it can be difficult for us to get excited about the routine tasks of each day. But, it is by doing the little things of life as best we can, that will carry us down life’s road. The Bible talks to us about persevering, continuing the effort, staying for the distance, plodding through the tough spots. Paul says we are to glory in tribulation, knowing that it produces perseverance, which builds character, and gives us hope. We are to continue in faith and in God’s goodness. Our spiritual growth and development is enhanced greatly as we walk through the daily difficulties of life. But, be encouraged. We are not alone. He is with us and helps us to carry the load.

In Isaiah we learn that those who wait on the Lord, will run and not be weary, walk and not faint. The writer of Hebrews instructs us to run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus who endured the cross. God will give us each day both the strength and encouragement we need to stay the course.

“Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” – Psalm 50:15
