The Legend of Zelda (NES): Ten Things You Didn’t Know

10) Dark Hyrule

This game takes place in a very dark version of Hyrule. According to the officially released timeline by Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda takes place in a dismal version of Hyrule. In this timeline the hero from Ocarina of Time has been defeated by Ganondorf who is then sealed away by the great sages. Fast-forward several generations after this and Hyrule becomes a barren wasteland. An evil army steals the triforce of power and princess Zelda, fearful of the fate of her withered kingdom, breaks the Triforce of Wisdom into 8 pieces. She then scatters those Triforce pieces across the land. This was really eye-opening for me and it changed the way I looked at this gaming masterpiece.
