The character Zelda is named after Zelda Fitzgerald. In case you didn’t know, Zelda Fitzgerald was the wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald (author of “The Great Gatsby“). Shigeru Miyamoto (the co-creator of the “Legend of Zelda series“) has stated “[Zelda] was a famous and beautiful woman from all accounts, and I liked the sound of her name. So I took the liberty of using her name for the very first Zelda title”.
